The first race meeting of the White Turf 2016 on 7th February had to be cancelled due to weather conditions, but also at the second race meeting on 14th February the conditions were not really good. Therefore the track had to be shortened and the races were run on only 800 meters on the straight with the finish line.
This way, the horses had to proof their sprinter qualities: The „H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan Listed Cup“ with a purse of 38.500,- CHF was won by Swiss-bred four-year-old Nil Kamla (Dahess / Khaloucha) and Jockey Raphael Lingg. The mare was bred by Urs Aeschbacher and is trained by his wife Franziska. Nil Kamla has had last year some placings and achieved now here first victory. On second place came Ali Baba Del Sol (Kerbella (FR) / A L’Aube del Sol) from Holland, who has won already some 80.000 € in prize money and has seven victories (at IFAHR Races) to his credit. On third place came a stable mate of Nil Kamla, Nil Ashal (Nil Beduoin / Nil Abiat), who has also seven victories to his credit.
Arabian races on the frozen and snow covered lake of St. Moritz have started in the year 2000 and 2002, with interruption until 2013, when Middle Eastern sponsors made it possible again. The next Arabian race will take place on Sunday, 21st February – weather permitting.
