Early August, CH El Brillo (El Shaklan / AZH Basknaborra) celebrated his 30th birthday. It was a stroke of luck for La Movida Stud, when this El Shaklan son came into the stud in 1999. Ferdinand Huemer was actually looking for some El Shaklan daughters for his Ali Jamaal stallions, when he heard that Fritz Gautschi in California had an El Shaklan daughter for sale, and so he went to see her, but instead was fascinated by her half-brother El Brillo whom he found in the backyard. The stallion hasn’t been used for breeding, he was never shown before, had never even left the farm – although already 14 years old – and had an extremely close relationship with his owner. However, after long weeks of negotiations, Ferdinand Huemer finally could buy them both and bring them to Austria – but then the problems started: El Brillo was homesick, missed his owner dearly and stopped eating. He got colic and only an emergency operation at the vet clinic in Munich could save his life. It took weeks during which he was hand-fed with “Muesli” until he would start eating and enjoy life again. But it was all worth it, because CH El Brillo is not only a fantastic character, he also is a fantastic sire – among his offspring are the La Movida broodmares Anais El Bri (out of Ancholy Ali), Porla El Bri (a.d. Porlamar), and, of course, Reza El Bri (out of Regine El Jamaal), which is considered one of the best products of La Movida. But also foundation mares of other studs, such as Jana El Bri (out of Julainna El Jamaal), the dam of Murana’s Jassehr, who became one of the pillars at Murana Stud in Germany.
At the “Open Day” in May, El Brillo was presented as we know him, and it is hoped that he will enjoy some more years as “Pasha” at La Movida Stud.
