New Moon Stud – Shagya-Arabians in Australia

Thinking of Australia, is thinking of Kangaroos, Koala Bears and Cocatoos – but Shagya-Arabians? For seven years, the Hogan family breeds Shagya-Arabians in Down Under – and Mareike Placke has visited them.

Rebecca and Darren Hogan first purchased Shagya-Arabian horses in 2010. Only their “New Moon Stud” has Shagya-Arabian horses in all of Australia. Rebecca rides Endurance and lives in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, approximately one hour south of Sydney. She organises the annual Wingello Forest Endurance Ride in the area, which now attracts the biggest number of endurance riders in Australia. The May 2017 event had 359 entries. In May 2018 will be the 10th anniversary of this event.
