American endurance icon Potato Richardson (aged 76) had an accident while training his mare La Princessa Tzia for the oncoming Tevis Cup. On a training ride, both horse and rider struck a tree protruding on the trail and fell. Potato Richardson suffered from a broken leg, while his mare remained uninjured and went home.
Richardson successfully completed the Tevis Cup 22 times between 1975 to 2015, winning three times, the last time in 2015 with SMR Filoutte.
