Ekstern 1994-2022

Farewell to a Legend

A great heroe of Polish Arabian breeding has died: Ekstern (Monogram / Ernestyna). Born in 1994 at the Michalow Stud, he conquered the show scene around the turn of the millennium, became Triple Crown Senior Stallion in 2000 and also otherwise, he was unbeaten in the show ring. In 2008 he was awarded the WAHO Trophy, also for his merits as a sire – he was considered the most influential sire in Poland at the time and was known for his extraordinary movements. He excelled mainly as a “sire of dams” and his offspring include Palanga, Wieża Marzeń, Ekliptyka, Laranda, Ekina, Mesalina, Altamita, Biruta, Cenoza, Sefora, Wieża Róż, Potentilla and many others. His daughter Pepita (out of Pepesza by Eukalyptus), *2005 in Janow Podlaski, was sold to Saudi Arabia at the “Pride of Poland” auction in 2015 for a record sum of 1.4 million euros! Four of his sons stand out: Esparto (died in 2015), Polon (sold to Halsdon Arabians), Prado, who is a breeding stallion in Janow Podlaski and Falset, bred by Michalow, who is standing at stud in Bialka this year. But of course his influence already extends several generations, especially through his wonderful daughters: just think of Equator (QR Marc / Eklyptika by Ekstern) or Morion (Kahil Al Shaqab / Mesalina by Ekstern).
